Scuba Diving BCD's
Apart from your scuba regular a BCD is the next most important part of your scuba diving equipment so its important to choose the right one. BCD's - buoyancy control device - allow us to remain neutrally buoyant in the water and therefore enjoy a comfortable and safe dive. There are 2 main types of BCD's; Jacket & vest style or back mounted & wing style. Lets start with the jacket & vest style, this is the most common type of BCD used for warm water diving and is normally the types of jacket worn during scuba diving training. As the name implies this style is just live wearing a vest or jacket, the air bladder lies around the back plate, around the waist and under the arms allowing a diver stabilize in the water and float vertically on the surface. Back mounted or wing styles BCD's are different in that the air bladder is located on the back of the diver, the main advantage of this is that the diver has a lot more freedom of movement than that of the jacket styles, another advantage is they generally have s much larger lift capacity than the jacket style making it a favourite for diver who need to carry extra weights or more than one tank. The wing style also puts the diver in a horizontal position when on the surface which makes a popular choice for divers who have to swim on the surface for some time. Both styles have their pros and cons, it's important to choose the styles that most suits your dive sites and diving styles.
